Every week I hear another repackaged version of why someone is fat or out of shape. I hear that there is not enough time in the day to exercise, that work is really busy at the moment, that things are very stressful, that the children are sick and that because children and partners don’t eat veggies or salad, then this is a perfect excuse not to purchase, cook or eat them! Wow! How easy is it to pass the buck, lay the blame elsewhere and just remain fat and unhealthy?
Well like it or not, in order to change that which is not currently working, we must take a new approach. This means a new approach to what we eat, how we move and more importantly how we think about the whole process. Getting the head bit right is the biggest challenge. If you are not in the right head space about getting into shape, then I am afraid it will be an uphill battle. On the other hand, if you take some time to really map out your journey, starting with where you are and where you need to go (along with where you want to go) then the road ahead will be a lot smoother with far less speed humps along the way.
Blame is something I hear constantly. I actually find it amazing what and who people blame because of lack of results or because they haven’t done their exercise or have made poor food choices. Some of the excuses I hear are; it was raining or too hot this week or I didn’t get up in time to exercise, my partner likes to eat chocolate, the children were sick, I was really busy this week, I didn’t want to cook five different meals, so I ate pizza with the rest of the family. Blah, blah, blah, blah!! So your partner held a gun to your head to make you eat the chocolate he/she likes! Children don’t need to eat veggies so let’s just eat pizza and all get fat and unhealthy! Guess What? The sooner you fess up and take total responsibility for what you do and what shape you are in – the sooner you WILL make the changes and live in a healthy lean happy body! It’s that simple.
Responsibility is a big part of the equation. Blame is a cop out! Sure, there will always be loads of excuses not to exercise or not to eat well, but do you find excuses not to clean your teeth or not go to work or not wash your clothes? You do these things because they are things you just do! So make exercise and healthy eating something that you just do. If there is a big shift you need to make then it is paramount you plot out a plan with a starting point and a destination. Make the plan clear and concise so you really make the changes. Get the family on board and don’t listen to negativity. People love to be negative (for what reason I just don’t know) and negativity feeds negativity. So choose positive and choose positive people to be around. Positive mindset = Positive actions = Positive results. Just do it.
